Are you getting enough ? ... that’s the question posed by a new specialist service provider, the FUN AT WORK COMPANY.
The Fun at Work Company has been set up to offer managers and executives an extensive range of creative events, activities, equipment and materials to make their workplace a FUN place.
A lot has been written about humour in the workplace, but the Fun at Work Company is not planning to evangelise about this. Nick Bryant Director said “ We are simply planning to offer ideas and services to the executive who knows that it is a benefit to have a workforce with a smile on its face, there are so many benefits ! Its generally accepted that fun and a smile at work can help improve employee motivation, reduce sickness, increase productivity, creativity, job satisfaction and aid staff retention.”
With a huge range of activities, fun and services in a number of categories the Fun at Work Company have lots to offer the managers who know what they need to do, but just have never really had the time.
They say, “ having fun at work doesn’t have to be about clowns doing tumbling and slapstick down the corridor disrupting people at important work” The ideas promoted by the Fun at Work Company are more subtle with the emphasis on making the workplace a more enjoyable place to be, with occasional and usually unexpected ‘fun’ putting a smile on faces, rasing a chuckle and generally making people feel good . A planned programme of occasional and surprise activities in the workplace will bring staff, at all levels, to

work with a smile, never knowing quite what might happen that day. Humour is in the unexpected.. so a surprise event or piece of fun will always have a positive effect. There is little that will make a person feel as good as a smile or a laugh.
There is a wide variety of ‘fun toys’ you can hire for your workplace at really good rates, like Drum Kits (which executive has never wanted one of those in the office ?) , fitness machines and equipment, games like table football and Playstation machines, mountain bikes for that lunchtime exercise and even a comfy powered massage chair to take away the strains of the day.
They have some wild and wacky ideas for fun in the Jokes and Japes section, including some really unusual for the more daring manager. Various conventional and new treatments and services like Head Massages and Back Care workshops to improve wellbeing are in the ‘Wellness’ section. Look also for the many original ideas for ‘Themed Days’ at work, with music, food and activities to enjoy ... either country, lifestyle or ‘activity day’ linked. In the ‘Physical Stuff’ category you can leap from Abseiling down the side of your office right thro to learning how to walk the tightrope, to get you going. The ‘Skills and Learning’ and ‘Ideas to Inspire’ segments include a huge number of new challenges, fun activities and entertainments from Cookery skills to Tap Dancing and Singing. There are even some ‘Cerebral challenges’ to stimulate the grey stuff, from puzzle games to the Pub Quiz in that section. All in all, with currently over 200 suggestions there is something for everybody here.
Importantly most of the ideas offered have been specifically designed so as not to interfere or disrupt important work or embarrass staff. Indeed most activities are linked to arrival at the office, lunch and other breaks and a little after work fun.
The huge range of ideas is set up to ensure that any company can offer an amazingly varied programme throughout the year to suit the size and corporate culture of their business, without it costing a significant amount. Activities vary from the very low cost up to major promotions, but there is certainly something for everybody and every budget. There is a general brochure available, but all the current activities, services and items are listed more fully at the company website www.funatwork.co.uk

The Fun at Work Company say, why spend a lot of money showing, probably just a few, staff what a good time they can have away from the office, when for just a small percentage of that cost they can make every employee feel good about the time they have to spend at work, ultimately what is the most important ? Make everyday a Company Fun Day, not just that one Saturday in August in a field. So you want to involve the families of the staff ! easy, many of the items offered are suitable for partners to join in with and even the children in the holidays or at Christmas.
For those executives not convinced about the power of fun at the workplace the Fun at Work Company has collected a varied selection of articles in its ‘Resources’ section of the website that might convince the uncertain... if you’re a real sceptic though you almost certainly wont have got this far.
